Curb Painting Fundraiser

A curb painting fundraiser is one of those fundraising ideas that can be extremely effective is participation is maximized. The additional benefit to this idea is that there is a cost effective and tangible benefit for your donor.

How it Works

Begin the pre-sale to the curb painting fundraiser to as many potential customers as possible before the actual day (or days) of the event. Typically the donation price is between $5-$10. However, many groups find that because it is a fundraiser, customers will give more.

Tools of the Trade

You will need enough supplies for your participants which include paintbrushes, reflective paint, number templates (1-9) and a wagon or cart to pull these supplies through the neighborhood. (You can also use the back of a truck or SUV (covered with drop clothes so no paint splashes ruin the fun!)

How Much Can We Make?

Well, it really depends on a few factors but the more people on the job and the effectiveness of the pre-sale can be very effective. For example, if there are 20 participants that paint 10 curbs in one day for $10 each the potential earnings could be $2,000.

A curb painting fundraiser conducted over two weekends could net a significant amount of money. Securing some of the materials (brushes, paint, etc.) as a donation from a local paint company will also reduce costs and increase revenue.

Step by Step Example

Divide and conquer with teams of two to four people. Fan out in a neighborhood with supplies and a great attitude. When approaching a potential customer (donor) wear a smile on your face (perhaps a team or school shirt to identify your organization) and explain your fundraiser and what goals you are trying to accomplish.

Each house will take an average of 15 minutes (2 coats of paint). When you are finished, inform the customer and allow them to inspect your work.

Once the donation has been collected, remember to thank the donor and leave a receipt. Click here for a receipt example for a curb painting fundraiser

The card expresses gratitude, the goals of the fundraiser and is a tax receipt for the donor (if your organization is a qualified non profit.)

Promotion Ideas

Remember, if no one knows about your event then no one cares! Create flyers click here for a sample curb painting flyer and distribute them across your community (churches, grocery stores, community bulletin board, etc.) Also, put you the flyers, the week before you plan to be in the neighborhoods so that people know that you will be coming. Don’t forget social media options like Facebook, Twitter, etc.
