Keep it clean and anonymous - use bid numbers instead of names for your guests.
Make sure that the minimum bid increment is clear so that there is no confusion (or hurt feelings!)
For auctions with multiple sections list the closing time at the top of the sheet to give bidders clear instructions. Even though you may be announcing it at the event, give your guests this additional information.
Use large fonts (12-14 size) or larger and lighter paper for your printed (not handwritten!) bid sheets.
Put your organization's logo or event name at the top of your sheet to carry the theme througout your printed material.
Make sure that the package or item number is on both the item and the bid sheet. Things might tend to move around and you don't want these items to be separated.
A guaranteed purchase price is always a great thing to ensure top dollar on a hot item. Put this price at the bottom of the sheet. The rule of thumb is about 150% of the value of the item.
