Start a Tradition

Start a tradition! Unique fundraising ideas like a basketball tournament, air band show, karoke extravaganza, talent show, art show or whatever you can think of are great fundraisers.

How It Works

A unique fundraising idea is one that fits your school’s personality and something you can own over time. The better planned and thought out you can make the event; the greater your success and the buzz you will can generate. A tradition is something that the whole community can look forward to and participate in over the years.

Many middle schools and high schools have had success with a variety of events. A great one is sports related such as a basketball tournament (in which alumni and other community members can play) as well as current students.

Invite local youth leagues to participate. You will make your money on the entrance fees per teams (they can range from $50 to $500 depending upon the number of games you will offer to be played and other perks such as tee shirts, bags, etc. that you offer). Softball and dodge ball are other really excellent ideas as well.

There will be costs involved as you start your tradition but remember to try to get as much donated as possible. Never be too shy to ask for something to be discounted or donated: from the officials to the food in the snack bar - just ask!

More Ideas

Other fun ideas include as you start your tradition could include a talent shows and air band shows. It is pretty amazing how fun (and funny!) these events can be. Involve teachers, administration, and parents as well.

Anything that involves your school and the community offers an endless opportunity to raise funds and have a great time creating memories.

Charge an admission fee of a few dollars and offer opportunities to purchase additional items as you start your tradition. You can create a limited edition t-shirt for sale. Different food options for your guests from hot dogs and nachos to bento or a taco bar will provide enough variety for everyone to enjoy. Sell glow-in-the-dark bracelets and necklaces.

In Summary

A traditional fundraising event that is well planned and provides interactive fun will be a sure hit. Your organization and the community will look forward to this great event. Every year, analyze what worked and what needs improvement. Go crazy and make it fun!
